During Ted Carlson’s time on the track for Wheaton, he compiled numerous records and championships. Carlson won five NCAA Division III All-American honors in track, including national championships in 1979 and 1981 in the 400-meter hurdles. As a senior in 1981, Carlson set the school record in the 400 hurdles with a time of 51.3 seconds while winning the NCAA Division III national title, and later was a semifinalist at the 1981 NCAA Division I National Meet. Carlson set CCIW records in six of the 10 conference championships he won in four years and was the Most Valuable Performer at the 1979 CCIW Championships. He was also Wheaton’s team captain in 1980 and 1981 and Wheaton’s team Most Valuable Player from 1979-1981.
