Wheaton College Athletics

Compliance Statement

A Message to Alumni From the Department of Athletics

As a community committed to following Christian principles in every aspect of College life, Wheaton College pursues excellence in athletics within the framework of institutional control and operational integrity. Wheaton College's athletic programs follow the rules and guidelines as stated by the NCAA. Additionally, Wheaton College adheres to the the philosphy and is governed by the regulations of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) clearly defines permissible recruiting activities for alumni. Under NCAA guidelines, alumni may not provide “extra benefits” to prospective student athletes (9-12th grade), currently enrolled student athletes, or their relatives and friends unless that benefit is generally available to the institution’s prospective students determined on a basis unrelated to athletic ability.

Some examples of “extra benefits” include:
  • Arranging employment
  • Providing loans
  • Co-signing loans
  • Providing cash or like items
  • Free or reduced cost housing
  • Gifts of clothing or equipment or any tangible item
  • Providing parents, family or friends of a student-athlete free admission to a banquet, dinner or other function
  • Providing a meal to a student-athlete
  • Providing a meal to the parents of a student-athlete
