Rob O’Dell earned All-American honors all four years that he swam for the Crusaders. In fact, he earned All-American recognition 20 times as an individual or a member of a relay team. He finished third at the National Championships in the 200-yard freestyle in both 1988 and 1989. He placed fifth at Nationals in the 500-yard freestyle in both 1988 and 1989. He also swam to All-American recognition with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 1989 and also was an All-American in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 1986 and 1987. Rob set varsity and state records in the 200-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle. He set CCIW records in two events, won nine CCIW Championships and was named the “Most Outstanding Swimmer” at the 1989 CCIW Championships. He was selected as Wheaton’s “Most Valuable Swimmer” in 1988 and 1989 and was the Illinois Swimming Association’s “Swimmer of the Year” in 1989.
