Harve Chrouser, a 1934 graduate, made a large impact on Wheaton College through the years as an athlete, coach and athletic director. Chrouser had a four-year collegiate career as a football player and wrestler. After his graduation, Harve returned to Wheaton in 1940 to become the head football coach. In 17 years of coaching, Chrouser’s Crusaders racked up a 104-34-8 record, with nine CCI titles in the process. He developed 60 All-Conference players and 15 Little All-Americans.

In 1950, Harve succeeded Ed Coray as the athletic director at Wheaton and led the drive to build Centennial Gym. During his 25 years as athletic director, Chrouser expanded the athletic department and brought national recognition to the Crusaders in a number of sports. Harve also was a well-known figure in several areas of college athletics, serving on numerous committees and professional associations.
