Hal Taussig was a standout wrestler for the Wheaton Wrestling program during the late 1940s and early 1950s. Taussig’s career was highlighted by his senior season in which he finished undefeated but declined an invitation to the national championship. Hal finished with a career record of 47-8 and in four years as a collegiate wrestler, Taussig never lost a match in Coray Alumni Gym.

Taussig learned much from his time at Wheaton and reminisces with the following memory. “Success is ephemeral, and has nothing to do with self-worth. To have one’s name bannered in the Record … just because of an undefeated season is harmful rather than helpful as one struggles toward spiritual maturity. Eventually the false confidence that notoriety gave me helped me. I had to cope with profound failure, which when juxtaposed with the superficial success, taught me that my value as a person had nothing to do with either success or failure – but only in one fact: I was created in the image of God. What was harmful to my growth immediately, became, indirectly, very productive.”
