Hall of Honor
An outstanding two-sport athlete, Dave McDowell was an All-American wrestler, a two-time MVP of the football team and team captain of both squads for the Crusaders. Dave stepped right into a starting tackle position as a freshman and remained there for the next four seasons. His teammates voted him the Fred J. Lange Most Valuable Player Award after his sophomore and senior seasons and he served as co-captain twice.
In wrestling, Dave was equally impressive, running up a 61-10-5 career record as a heavyweight. He was given the Jim Elliot Award for outstanding character as a sophomore and won the Dawson Trophy as high point scorer as a junior when he placed fourth in the NCAA College Division wrestling tournament. Dave captained the team as a senior and had an 18-2-1 record, including an overtime loss and a tie with the defending national champion, but an injury kept him out of the NCAA tournament that season.
