Hall of Honor
At the time of his graduation in 1987, Doug Rothschild’s 22 career sacks was the second-highest total by a Wheaton player. In 1985, he recorded a team-high nine sacks and tied for the team lead in 1986 with nine sacks, leading the CCIW for both of those seasons.
Following his graduation, Doug signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears in 1986 and played three games for the Bears during the NFL strike of 1987. In 1988, he signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Doug notes of his memories as a Wheaton football player, “I learned what it is to be on a team. I played team sports all my life, but never in a Christian environment. The model in scripture of each person having a role in the body of Christ is similar to the lessons learned in the practicum of team sport.”
