Hall of Honor
While an athlete at Wheaton, Howard Fischer was ahead of his time. In 1936 he became the first Wheaton men’s tennis player to wear shorts. As a member of the first Crusader soccer team in 1935, he became the first goalkeeper to record a shutout. In addition, Fischer was an accomplished athlete, particularly on the tennis court. He played four seasons of varsity tennis at Wheaton, including three years at No. 1 singles. He captained the 1937 team that posted an undefeated record and reached the Finals of the “Little 19” Tournament.
