Hall of Honor
Gil Waterman was an accomplished wrestler in his four-year career at Wheaton. Waterman compiled a 79-28 record (.738 winning percentage), made three trips to the NCAA National Championships (once Division II and twice Division III) and took fifth place in his senior season for All-American honors.
Gil won individual honors at the Wheaton Invitational twice, including his freshman year. He recalls, “Winning the Wheaton Invitational twice, including his freshman year was memorable. Growing up in Wheaton, I had watched the Invitational with my dad when I was in junior high. Now here I was not only competing, but also winning! It was an honor to win with my parents there and to accept a team trophy from then athletic director Harve Chrouser. Coach Chrouser had been a mentor for me throughout my high school and college years.”
