Thunder men's cross country team is second and women are fourth at the 2011 CCIW Championships

Chicago, Ill. – The CCIW hosted the 2011 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin on Saturday at Montrose Harbor. The Thunder men's program finished second in an eight-team field on the 8K course and the Thunder women were fourth out of seven teams on the 6K course.

North Central won the men's race with 15 points, Wheaton scored 53 points in second place, Augustana took third place with 76 points, Illinois Wesleyan finished fourth with 120 points, Elmhurst was fifth with 138 points, Carthage tallied 158 points in sixth place, Millikin finished seventh with 214 points and North Park was eighth with 250 points.

Junior Mark Phillips led the pack for the Wheaton men with a time of 25:33 to finish in sixth place. Sophomore James Waterman (PICTURED LEFT) ran a time of 25:40 to finish in seventh place, just ahead of the 25:42 time posted by his brother Jake Waterman in eighth place. Thunder senior Jacob Goertz was 15th with a time of 26:13, Parker Thompson was 17th in 26:19 and Nate Hatton took 19th place in 26:29. Brett Haffner was named the Freshman of the Meet with a time of 26:33 in 20th place. The quartet of Phillips, both Waterman's and Goertz each earned All-Conference honors.

North Central won the women's race with 30 points, Illinois Wesleyan scored 47 points in second place, Augustana tallied 80 points in third place, Wheaton finished fourth with 111 points, Carthage scored 119 points in fifth place, Elmhurst was sixth with 126 points and Millikn registered 214 points in seventh place.

Thunder junior Annie Shults (PICTURED RIGHT) was Wheaton's top performer with a time of 24:04 in 16th place. Jennifer Anderson finished just behind Shults in 17th place with a time of 24:08 and junior Hillary Topazian took 25th with a time of 24:36. Senior Parker Gary was 26th in 24:37 and Britta Eastburg posted a time of 24:38 in 27th place. Emma Krieter was 33rd in 24:53 and Abby Bullmore was 35th with a time of 25:09.
