Men's cross country is fourth & women 12th at NCAA Regional

MEN'S RESULTS  ---  WOMEN'S RESULTS

Winneconne, Wis. –
The Wheaton College cross country teams participated in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional this Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin.  The Thunder men finished fourth in a 39-team field. The Wheaton women were 12th out of 40 teams.

The Thunder men finished in the top five among teams at the regional nearly assuring the squad an at-large spot in next Saturday's NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.  North Central won the men's race with 58 points, UW-LaCrosse finished second with 114 points, Washington (Mo.) scored 135 points in third place, Wheaton scored 140 points in fourth place and UW-Eau Claire was fifth with 145 points.

James Waterman earned All-Region honors with a time of 24:40 in eighth place. Jake Waterman finished 10th in 24:47 and Mark Phillips took 29th in 25:12. Parker Thompson posted a time of 25:28 to finish 43rd and Nate Veldt was 50th in the 271-man field with a time of 25:40. Brett Haffner finished 57th in 25:48 and Nate Hatton was seventh in 26:01.

Thunder head coach Scott Bradley noted, "It was a great overall effort today. Everybody did their job." He added, "It really helped to have two guys in the top-10, that was huge and Nate Veldt really stepped forward today as well." Bradley concluded, "We have continued to build and get stronger as the season goes along, which is what you want. Hopefully we have one more race in us where we keep getting better."

Thunder sophomore Emma Gilbertson was the top performer for the Wheaton women with a time of 22:33 in 22nd place. Annie Shults was 45th with a time of 23:05 and freshman Jordan Tuin was 85th with time of 23:38. Senior Lauren Hanson posted a time of 24:06 in 104th place and Hillary Topazian was 117th in 24:18. Emma Kreiter ran the course 24:37 for 131st place and sophomore Abby Bullmore was 139th in 24:39.
