Thunder cross country teams compete at nationally competitive UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invite

Winneconne, Wis. –
The Wheaton College cross country teams competed at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Course. The Wheaton men finished eighth in a 38-team field that featured 11 nationally-ranked teams, including the ninth-ranked Thunder. The Thunder women's team was 20th in a 37-team field that included eight nationally-ranked teams.

Calvin won the 8K men's race with 52 points, North Central scored 58 points in second place, UW-Eau Claire finished third with 93 points, Washington (Mo.) finished fourth with 127 points, UW-Stevens Point scored 163 points in fifth place, Augustana was sixth with 174 points, U of Chicago scored 221 points in seventh place, Wheaton scored 224 points in eighth place, UW-Oshkosh scored 268 points in ninth place and UW-Stout finished 359 points in 10th place.

Junior James Waterman was the top performer for the Thunder with a time of 25:53 in 34th-place in 450-man field. Senior Mark Phillips finished in 43rd-place with a time of 26:02 and Jake Waterman was just behind him in 46th-place at 26:03. Brett Haffner posted a time of 26:05 in 49th-place and senior Parker Thompson was 52nd with a time of 26:06.

Freshman Jordan Tuin recorded the top effort for the Thunder women's program with a time of 23:19 on the 6K course to finish 50th in a 500-woman field. Annie Shults recorded a time of 23:22 in 57th place, Emma Gilbertson recorded a time of 23:30 in 69th place. Hillary Topazian finished 151st with a time of 24:41 and Emma Kreiter posted a time of 24:51 in 161st place.
