Women's tennis tops Carroll 5-0 to advance to CCIW AQ Tournament Final

Wheaton, Ill. - The top-seed Wheaton Thunder women's tennis team (15-3) defeated No. 4 seed Carroll University (9-9) on Friday in a semifinal of the CCIW AQ Tournament. Friday's match started at the Wheaton tennis courts on Wheaton's campus, but was moved indoor to the Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, Illinois due to rain.

Wheaton led 3-0 after sweeping Carroll in doubles competition. The Thunder No. 2 doubles team of Miranda Kay and Sara Magnuson (PICTURED LEFT) earned Wheaton's first victory with an 8-0 win against Carroll's Shanna Mogden and Lora Leach. Emma Westwick and Nicole Freeman paired for an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles against Carroll's Megan Wiersma and Lauren Jirik. The Thunder No. 1 doubles team of Katie Park and Claire Browning were 8-3 winners against Carroll's Tiff Maggioncalda and Grace Krueger.

Westwick defeated Carroll's Lora Leach 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Nicole Freeman secured the team victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against Jirik.
Wheaton advances to face Augustana in the tournament's championship match on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Wheaton tennis courts. No. 2 seed Augustana defeated No. 3 seed Carthage College 5-2 in Friday's other semifinal. The victor of Saturday's match will earn the CCIW's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament.
