GAME STATS Racine. Wis. - The Wheaton women's tennis team traveled to Wisconsin on Wednesday for a key CCIW matchup against longtime rival Carthage College (2-2, 2-2 CCIW). Wheaton topped the Firebirds 4-3 as the Thunder remain undefeated with 5-0 overall record and a 4-0 record in CCIW play. Today's match was moved indoors to the Life Sport Athletic Club in Racine due to rain in the area on Wednesday.
Wheaton took two of the three doubles matches to win the key point for doubles today. The No. 3 doubles team of
Carly O'Leary and
Mia Luo defeated the Carthage tandem of Valentina Huesca and Jordan Miller, 6-2. Carthage's No. 1 doubles team defeated the Wheaton team of
Tatum Thurstone and Kim Karis to setup a key match at No. 2 doubles to deternine which team would receive the doubles point. The Wheaton duo of
Ella Malone and
Molly Ramsey picked up the critical point with a 7-5 victory against Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson.
Wheaton started doubles play with the key 1-0 lead, however, Arreazola defeated Thurstone at No. 2 singles to tie the match score at 1-1. Malone was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles against Jordan Miller as Wheaton regained the lead 2-1. Ramsey extended Wheaton's lead to 3-1 when she defeated Peterson of Carthage 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Luo secured the team victory for the Thunder when she defeated Huesca 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.Â
The Thunder return home on Friday to Illinois Wesleyan at 4:30 p.m. at the Wheaton tennis courts.
