GAME STATS 2 Whitewater, Wis. - The Wheaton volleyball team (1-3) dropped a pair of matches on Saturday in the final day of action at the 2013 UW-Whitewater Invitational. The Thunder lost a hard-fought 3-2 decision to Transylvania on Saturday morning and the Thunder lost to #13-ranked UW-Whitewater 3-1 in the final match of the day. The Thunder will return to action on Tuesday at Lake Forest in a 7 PM match against the Foresters.
In Transylvania's 3-2 win
(BOXSCORE) against the Thunder, Transylvania won the first set 25-22 and Wheaton countered with a 25-21 win in the second set. The Thunder earned a 25-22 win in the third set and Transylvania tied the match up by winning the fourth set 25-23. Transylvania earned the win with an 18-16 victory in the decisive fifth set.
Shelby Knowles recorded a season-high 22 kills, with nine digs.
Maddie McGinnis tallied 14 kills and
Emily Buyse made eight kills, with
Lindsay Stein adding seven.
Lauren Wilhite posted 30 assists and
Ashley Torok recorded 21 assists.
Kelli Manning had a match-best 29 digs and torok added 12 digs. Stein made five total blocks and
Maddie McGinnis recorded three total blocks.
UW-Whitewater topped the Thunder 3-1
(BOXSCORE) in the final match with the nationally-ranked Warhawks earning a 25-21 in the first set. UW-Whitewater was a 25-18 winner in the second set and Wheaton responded with a 25-20 win in the third set. The Warhawks closed out the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth and final set. McGinnis made 18 kills to lead the Thunder. Knowles recorded 12 kills, with 12 digs. Wilhite made 20 assists and Torok added 19. Manning had a team-high 16 digs, with
Samantha Hedlund adding 12 digs.
