Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder volleyball team opened its 2026 season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory at home against Moody Bible Institute. The Thunder won the first set against the Archers, 25-8. Wheaton closed out the win with a 25-15 victory in the second set and a 25-17 win in the third set.
Wheaton saw good offensive distribution with five players achieving five or more kills in the match as the hosts posted a .301 attack percentage with 34 kills and just 12 errors. The hosts also had 11 service aces and 28 digs.
Mary Hamann led the Thunder with seven kills and she also had a team-high four service aces.
Haley Hanavan had six kills and three total blocks.

Sydney Overweg and
Chelsea Poskocil each tallied five kills. Overweg had a match-high .625 attack percentage, followed by a .571 percentage for Poskocil and .545 effort for Hanavan.
Karalyn Osborne distributed a match-high 18 assists, while Alaino Nino had 10 assists.
Jane Holmberg had three total blocks for the hosts.
Wheaton travels to St. Louis this weekend for the Bear Invite on the Campus of WashU. Wheaton takes on Webster University and WashU on Friday. The Thunder close out the weekend on Saturday with matches against Bowdoin and UC Santa Cruz.
