St. Louis, Mo. - The Thunder volleyball team finished up its participation in WashU's "Bear Invitational" with two matches on Saturday. Bowdoin College defeated the Thunder 3-2 (25-17, 17-25, 25-13, 22-25, 8-15) in Wheaton's first match of the day. UC-Santa Cruz topped the Thunder 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-16) in the final match for Wheaton as the 'Orange and Blue' wrap up the first week of the season with a 2-3 record.
Chelsea Poskocil led the Thunder with 11 kills in the opening match against Bowdoin.
Heidi Horan tallied nine kills, while
Paris Griffin and
Sydney Overweg recorded seven kills. Alaina Nino recorded 23 assists and Karalyn added 19.
Avery Nance tied for the match lead with three service aces and she had a match-best 20 digs.Â
UC-Santa Cruz improved to 3-0 all-time against Wheaton with Saturday afternoon's 3-0 victory against the Thunder.
Paris Griffin led Wheaton in the match with five kills, while Overweg and
Katherine Adkison each recorded four. Nino had eight assists and Maghan Shah had eight digs.
Wheaton is off until next weekend when the squad travels to Waverly, Iowa for the Wartburg Invite. The Thunder will face Gustavus Adolphus College and UW-Stout on Friday night. Wheaton takes on the host Knights of Wartburg College on Saturday morning to wrap up the tournament.
