Track teams open outdoor season at Washington Univ. Mini Meet

The Thunder track and field teams opened their respective outdoor schedules on Friday by competing at the Washington University Mini Meet. The Thunder women finished second in a six-team field and the Wheaton men were sixth.

The host Washington University Bears won the women's competition with 171.5 points, Wheaton scored 142 points in second place, Truman State and Ohio Northern third for with 133 points, Greenville College was fifth with 87 points and Anderson University recorded 55.5 points in sixth place.

Senior Renee Bettinger won the women's 100-meter dash in 12.65-seconds and she also posted a time of 26.41-seconds to win the 200-meter dash. Britta Eastburg won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.12. Wheaton took the top spots in the women's 400-meter dash as senior Jaime Orewiler won the event in 1:00.78 and junior Lauren Caporaso was second with a time of 1:01.03. Jayne Jaderholm posted a time of 1:07.30 to take second in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Thunder quartet of Emily Schwaller, Mali Langlie, Eastburg and Orewiler won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:00.13 that was more than 18-seconds ahead of the second-place team. Junior Shannon McNeil put together a jump of 4' 11” to win the women's high jump. Wheaton freshman Rosalie Dillon took third in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 16.05-seconds and junior Annie Shults recorded a time of 4:54.54 to finish third in the 1,500-meter run. 

Washington University was the men's champion with 190 points, Ohio Northern scored 171 points in second place, Truman State took third with 134 points, Anderson scored 85 points in fourth place, Greenville finished in fifth place with 79 points and Wheaton was sixth with 61 points.

Freshman Nathan Hadley posted a time of 10:01.73 to finish third in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Wheaton took second in the men's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:24.88 for the foursome of Luke Vance, Kyle Williams, Nate Veldt, Tim Jaderholm.

Thunder freshman Noah Miller had a toss of 142' 2” to finish third in the men's javelin. Freshman Justin McCrary had a leap of 39' 1” to take fourth place in the men's triple jump.
