Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder women's tennis team opened its 2011 fall schedule on Saturday with a 6-3 victory against Luther College. The match was played on Saturday morning under hot and humid conditions.

Wheaton's match with Lake Forest that was scheduled for later on Saturday was postponed due to rain. No make-up date for the Wheaton-Lake Forest match has been announced yet. The next scheduled match for the Thunder is Sept. 8 at Elmhurst College, opening conference play.

Against Luther, senior Elizabeth Worsowicz opened her season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number-one singles. Freshman Lauren Schlabach (PICTURED) earned her first collegiate win with a 7-5, 6-0 victory at number-four singles. Junior Marissa Shults was a 6-3, 5-7 (10-3) winner at number-five singles. Junior Julia Carey was a victor at number six-singles 6-4, 6-1.

Wheaton picked wins in two of the doubles matches as Worsowicz and Ray earned an 8-1 win at number-one doubles, while the pairing of Kristen Boyer and Julia Carey picked up an 8-5 win at number three-doubles.
