Wheaton swimmers finish final day at NCAA Championships

- Moire Yue and the men's relay team wrapped up the final day of competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships on Saturday at the University of Tennessee.

In her third and final individual event, Yue raced the 100-yard freestyle in a personal record time of 52.08, which was good for 28th place.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Wills Francis, Preston Conger, Matthew Gallagher and Tim Walker also wrapped up their season with a time of 3:10.18. Both Francis and Conger each recorded personal record times on their legs of the race.

Both the Wheaton men's and women's teams came away with team points, marking the first time since 2006 that both teams were on the board.



Day 3 Recap

Wheaton College swimmer Moire Yue broke her own school record in the 100-yard backstroke to highlight Day Three of the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships on Friday.

After setting a Wheaton record with a time of 57.28, Yue broke it in the prelims of the 100-yard backstroke in 57.11. She finished 15th in the finals in 57.55.

Also swimming individually, senior Preston Conger broke his own personal record in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 57.38. His previous best time was 57.58.

The Thunder men's 800-yard freestyle relay team (Matthew Gallagher, Tim Walker, Wills Francis, Preston Conger) wrapped up the day's action with a 26th place time of 7:13.45.

Day 2 Recap



In the 200-yard freestyle relay prelims, the Thunder men (Matthew Gallagher, Tim Walker, Wills Francis, Preston Conger)  took 23rd place with a time of 1:25.21. The foursome also swam in the 400-yard medley relay, clocking a time of 3:27.79 to finish in 18th place. A member of the Wheaton relay was also battling with the flu.

Senior teammates Conger and Gallagher also swam individually in the 100-yard butterfly. Conger finished 32nd (51.07) and Gallagher was 37th (51.89).

Day 1 Recap

In the Allan Jones Aquatic Center, Moire Yue swam the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.98 to tie for 23rd place. Yue came into the event with a school record 23.69 at the CCIW Championships. She has two more events to swim in on the weekend.

The Thunder's 200-yard medley relay reached the consolation final with a prelim time of 1:33.80. They then shaved some time in the finals thanks to a strong effort from the back half of the relay to register a mark of 1:33.21. The time was good for 15th place, which makes them the first Wheaton relay to score points since 2006.  Wills Francis led off the prelim with a personal record time of 24.2 in the backstroke leg.  The medley relay is made up of Francis (backstroke), Preston Conger (breaststroke), Matthew Gallagher (butterfly) and Tim Walker (freestyle). The Thunder men automatically qualified in the 200-yard medley relay with a No. 12-seeded time of 1:32.50.
