Mia Luo earns CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week recognition in women's tennis

Wheaton, Ill. -- The conference office announced its final round of weekly accolades for 2025-26 in the sport of women's tennis on Tuesday afternoon, and Wheaton freshman Mia Luo garnered her first career award following two match wins last Saturday. Luo becomes the fourth Thunder women's tennis player to earn the recognition this season, joining teammates Madeline Gentry, Sophie Dew, and Tatum Thurstone. Wheaton has received the most Student-Athlete of the Week nods of any conference program this year.

The Orange and Blue fell to Coe College in the regular season finale last weekend, but Luo had a perfect personal day of results, winning both her doubles and singles fixtures. The Canadian played her first collegiate doubles match alongside Carly O'Leary, and the pair captured a 6-2 victory at the #3 position. The rookie then mounted an impressive comeback effort in her #6 singles duel, shaking off a 6-2 defeat in the first frame to win the second set, 6-4. She dominated the ensuing tiebreak game at a 10-2 margin to earn one of Wheaton's two team points on the day. This turnaround victory maintained her unbeaten record in singles play this season, with the first-year competitor owning a 17-0 mark with 15 of those wins coming in the #6 spot.

Luo and her teammates will begin postseason play on Friday when the Thunder contest a semifinal match at the CCIW Tournament in Bloomington. Wheaton is the #2 seed in this year's tournament and is scheduled to face the winner of third-seeded Carthage College and sixth-seeded North Park University from Thursday's quarterfinal round.
