WHEATON, Ill. – The Wheaton College women's outdoor track & field team picked up seven event victories on Saturday as hosts of the annual Don Church Twilight Meet.
In the final team standings, the Thunder took second out of 15 teams with 159.5 points scored. University of Chicago won the team title with 201 points.
Heidi Krekelberg produced the top results of the day for Wheaton inside McCully Stadium. The junior sprinter captured a trio of event wins, including a new personal best in the 100 meters. Her winning time of 12.00 is a top-25 mark in all of NCAA Division III this season. Krekelberg also finished atop the podium in the 200 meters with a time of 25.29, while sophomore teammate Rose Spagnolo placed third (25.56). Krekelberg completed the trifecta as the second leg of the winning 4x100-meter relay alongside senior Sadie Richert, sophomore Hannah Harris and Spagnolo. The relay topped the field in 48.58.
Harris claimed victory in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.81, closely followed by sophomore Sally Elsen at 1:07.37. Elsen earned a win as well in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.23. Senior Hannah Tompkins snagged second place in the 100 hurdles at 16.36.
The 3,000-meter steeplechase featured a winning effort from senior Elizabeth LaBrin, who crossed the line first in 11:50.22. Senior Lily Lebo tallied a third-place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 12:04.61.
Richert was victorious in the 400 meters as the senior posted a time of 1:01.11. Freshman Clodagh O'Bryant finished third in the 1,500 meters in 4:47.09.
In field events, sophomore Allison Roozeboom grabbed second place in the shot put with a top heave of 12.16 meters. Junior Grace Crowder submitted a runner-up showing in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters.
The Thunder return to competition on Friday, April 24 at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Drake Alternative Meet.
