CHICAGO – The Wheaton College track & field teams resumed their indoor schedule at University of Chicago's Windy City Rumble on Saturday.
On the men's side, the Thunder finished fifth of 10 teams with 45 points scored. Host UChicago grabbed the team title with 165 points.
Senior Sam Elsen was the squad's top finisher in track events, as he won the 3,000-meter race with a time of 8:46.54. He defeated his nearest competitor by more than two seconds.
Isaac Bledsoe prevailed in the long jump for Wheaton's second victory of the day. The sophomore's top leap came in at 6.46 meters. Bledsoe also submitted a third-place showing in the triple jump with a distance of 13.39 meters.
In the high jump, freshman Ty Bova took third overall at 1.93 meters.
On the women's side, Wheaton was fifth of nine teams with 51 points. The team title went to UChicago with 218 points.
Sally Elsen was the Thunder's top performer of the meet. The freshman compiled third-place finishes in both the 60-meter hurdles (9.43) and the high jump (1.53 meters). Sophomore Grace Crowder captured fifth in the high jump with a matching 1.53 meters.
In the 3,000-meter race, Wheaton placed six runners in the top nine. Sophia Huber paced the team's effort in third place with a time of 11:00.15. She was closely followed by junior Sarah Quintanilla (11:03.11) and junior Elizabeth LaBrin (11:03.26) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
The Thunder will head north to Kenosha, Wis. on Feb. 7-8 for Carthage College's Todd Metzger Invite.
