Wheaton's record-setting relay team of (L-R) Dan Sanoussi, Isaac Bledsoe, Joey Rosenthal, and Aidan Langan
Rock Island, Ill. -- Select members of the Wheaton track & field teams traveled to western Illinois this week to take part in the two-day Midwest Twilight Final Qualifier hosted by Augustana College. 20 student-athletes represented the Thunder at Wednesday and Thursday's meet, and both the men's and women's squads enjoyed multiple noteworthy performances in the last team competition on the spring schedule. Wheaton's slate of results was highlighted by the men's 4x100-meter relay group of
Dan Sanoussi,
Isaac Bledsoe,
Joseph Rosenthal, and
Aidan Langan, who set a new program record in the race.
The Thunder quartet registered a time of 41.69 seconds to tie for 11th in Thursday's 19-team event, and their mark narrowly eclipsed the previous outdoor school record of 41.86 that was set by Peter Van Os, Nico Bradley, Chris Albert, and Ben Jackson five years ago. This achievement also marked the third program standard for Bledsoe in 2026 following his new 100 and 200-meter dash records this spring.
The accomplished junior earned a pair of fifth-place finishes in the meet's solo competitions, placing highly among the 67-man 200 meter field with a time of 21.54 seconds and logging a season-best 6.84-meter tally in the long jump.
High jumper
Ty Bova was Wheaton's highest finisher on the men's side this week, securing a runner-up showing in the 16-man event by reaching a height of 2.01 meters (6'7").
The conference champion in the decathlon,
Cohen Oberg, put in his best-ever display in the javelin throw this week, finishing eighth courtesy of a career-best distance of 52.13 meters, well ahead of his previous top mark of 47.26. Senior runner
Bradley Lauber concluded his undergraduate career in strong fashion with a pair of personal-best times, posting a 22.60 line in the 200-meter dash and a 50.13 count in the 400-meter race.
Shaymis Powell ran to a 12th-place finish in the 800 meters thanks to a career-best time of 1:58.53, improving on his previous fastest time in the event this year by more than four seconds.
Theo Lundin was not far behind in 17th with his own season-best showing of 2:01.72.
Six women competed for Wheaton at this week's qualifier, and
Laura Prothero earned the Thunder's lone event win. The senior topped the five-runner field in the 800 meters via a time of 2:29.85, winning the race by a convincing 4.70-second margin. Prothero also registered a third-place finish in the 1500 meters on a 4:58.68 line.
Grace Crowder was the runner-up in today's 11-woman high jump competition, clearing the bar at 1.69 meters (5' 6-1/2"), just shy of the program record 1.71 meters that she set at last month's Drake Relays.
Heidi Krekelberg, the CCIW champion in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, participated in both events again at this week's meet. The junior finished third in the former race from a time of 12.04 seconds and eighth in the latter on a 25.51 count.
Hannah Harris came in 18th place in the 200 meters thanks to a career-best 25.93 mark. She also put in a season-best performance in the 400-meter hurdles to place 12th via a time of 1:05.22.
