Chicago, Ill. – Having won three consecutive matches, the Thunder women's tennis team traveled to Hanover Park for a contest against North Park University that was relocated due to Saturday's unfavorable weather forecast. In the team's final regular season match of 2025 and a rematch of last season's CCIW Tournament semifinal, Wheaton defeated the Vikings, 6-1, to end the fall slate 7-1 in conference play.
No. 1 doubles pair
Madeline Gentry and
Tatum Thurstone cruised to a 6-2 victory. The Thunder suffered a narrow defeat in No. 2 doubles, but
Carly O'Leary and
Sophie Dew picked up a critical 6-3 decision in No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into the singles fixtures.
The Vikings snatched a win in No. 1 singles, but the Thunder claimed victory in the rest of the solo matches to secure their straightforward 6-1 win. Thurstone registered a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 result at No. 2 singles, while
Ella Malone earned a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win in No. 3 singles.
Janet Kondo blanked her opponent in the first set en route to a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the fourth spot, and
Sophie Dew logged a pair of 6-3 set wins at No. 5 singles. Fellow rookie
Mia Luo earned a clean sweep in No. 6 singles for her fourth double-bagel of the season.
Having clinched the second seed in next spring's CCIW Tournament and a first-round bye, Wheaton will return to competitive action in non-conference play next February.
