Wheaton men's golf competes in Millikin's Take Back the Night Challenge

Decatur, Ill. -- Two weeks after traveling to central Illinois for a two-day event hosted by a fellow CCIW program, the Thunder men's golf team did the same again this weekend by taking part in Millikin University's Take Back the Night Challenge. Playing against 16 other teams from 14 different schools, the Wheaton contingent participating in this competition eventually placed 12th in the team standings. The Thunder were led by Sam Obitts, who completed a strong individual week of play by again earning the top score for the team.

The Thunder were a model of consistency over the last two days despite playing their rounds at two different courses, carding a combined total of 310 for each round. The team's final tally of 620 was just two strokes ahead of Lake Forest College in 13th place and five shots behind Dubuque, North Park, and Roosevelt University, who each registered a 615 score for the weekend.

The junior Obitts followed up his impressive third-place finish at Taylor University's Ackerman-Allen Shootout earlier this week with a T-26th placement on this weekend's 100-player leaderboard. Representing the team's consistency, he shot a 75 on Friday and a 76 on Saturday for a two-day mark of 151.

Fellow junior Jonah Swartz carded a combined total score of 155 to tie for 43rd in the solo standings, while Wyatt Brown was a single shot behind Swartz on 156 as Wheaton's third top-50 finisher on the weekend.

Freshman Baylor Brogan was the only Wheaton golfer to improve his first round score on Saturday, shooting ten strokes lower on day two to finish with a combined mark of an even 160. Tannen Reed registered a two-day tally of 168 as the final member of this weekend's Thunder quintuple.

The Wheaton men will host a dual match against Elmhurst University at Cantigny Golf on Thursday afternoon for the final event of the regular season. Then in 12 days' time, the CCIW Championship, which is being hosted by the Thunder this year, will commence in Peoria.
