GAME STATS Chicago, Ill. -- The Wheaton women's tennis team left town for the first time in 2023-24 on Saturday to head into the city for a matchup of CCIW unbeatens. The North Park Vikings were this morning's opposition, and both teams knew how valuable a victory would be as the conference standings begin to take shape. The Thunder earned a hard-fought 6-3 decision to move to 3-0 in CCIW competition and 4-1 overall on the season.
Madeline Gentry and
Lydia Adams topped their #1 doubles rivals, 8-4, to earn an important point for the visitors, before
Tatum Thurstone and
Alexandra Wachs edged their #3 doubles match, 8-5, to give Wheaton a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
Audrey Vick captured her #2 singles fixture with a 6-1 win in the first set and a third-set bagel. Adams then earned her second win of the day at #4 singles by erasing a 6-1 defeat in the first frame to win 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 in an important swing contest.
Janet Kondo did likewise at #5 singles, taking her match 2-6, 6-2, 7-5, giving Wheaton the necessary five points for a match win.
Delaney Canning made light work of her #6 singles matchup, posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Wheaton faces another unbeaten opponent in its next match. The reigning CCIW champions, the North Central Cardinals, visit at 5 PM on Tuesday.
