Wheaton, Ill. – Thunder running back
Giovanni Weeks has been named to the 2023 Associated Press Division III All-America Team. The award caps Weeks' senior season with his third FIrst Team All-America award this year, making him a unanimous First Team All-America selection. He was also named to the First Team of both the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and D3football.com All-America Teams earlier this month
Weeks registered a school record 1,687 yards this season, a mark that is among the highest rushing totals in Division III this year. He broke his own school single-season records with 25 total touchdowns and 152 points. The senior ran for a career-high 256 yards in Wheaton's NCAA First Round win against Mount St. Joseph, the highest single-game rushing total in the playoffs this year and the 11th-highest single-game total in D3 this season. Weeks owns a school record with an average of 12.4 points per game in his career to rank 11th all-time in Division III history. His school record of 422 career points is 25th all-time in D3 history, and he holds the Wheaton school record with 70 career touchdowns. The 2023 season marks the sixth season that the Associated Press has named student athletes to a Division III All-America Team. Previously Division III football players were named to the Associated Press "Little All-America Team" that also consisted of NCAA Division II players and NAIA standouts.
Since the Associated Press Division III All-America Team began in 2017, Wheaton has produced 12 All-America selections. Tight end Zach Lindquist and defensive end Chase Greenlee were named to the
inaugural Associated Press Division III All-America Team in 2017. In 2018, linebacker
Eric Stevenson picked up First Team recognition. Defensive end
Dallas McRae and cornerback Spencer Rowland represented the Wheaton defense on the
2019 AP All-America Team. Four Wheaton players earned
selection to the 2021 AP All-America Team as McRae joined center Jake Hibben and tight end Spencer Peterson on the First Team, while linebacker Ryan Schwartz was a Second Team honoree. In 2022, offensive lineman
Trevor Gabriele and tight end
Ben Juska were Second Team honorees.
