Wheaton, Ill. – After a rainy first day of the CCIW Outdoor Track and Field Championships, being held this weekend on the Wheaton College campus at McCully Stadium and Lawson Field, the Thunder men's team stands in third place, with a current score of 18 points. North Central College leads the men's field with 25 points after day one.
Preliminaries were held for a number of men's events on Friday – the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, and 400 meter hurdles – as well as the finals for the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 10,000 meter run.
In the steeplechase finals, Thunder runners
Kevin Riley (
PICTURED ABOVE) and
Sam Elsen took home the top two spots on the podium. Riley won the conference championship title in 9:22.37, and Elsen placed second in 9:27.49.
Additionally, five events have been completed for the men's decathlon, and Wheaton's
Dolan Bair currently stands in fourth place with 2,589 points and five events remaining.
