Decatur, Ill. -- The Wheaton men's golf team headed south this weekend to take part in Millikin University's "Take Back the Night Challenge" event. When the two days of play concluded on Saturday afternoon, the Thunder squad finished the 12-team competition in eighth place, posting a team score of 644 and edging the hosting Big Blue by two strokes. Dalton van Esselstyn carded the best score for Wheaton over the two rounds, and his final tally of 155 was good for a T-13th finish in the individual standings.
Jonah Swartz entered the clubhouse with the next-lowest score for Wheaton this weekend, as the freshman stayed consistent over both days to earn a total of 161 strokes. Fellow rookie
Sam Obitts came in just two shots behind with a combined score of 163, and he posted the best score for Wheaton in round two, shooting a 79 in today's play. In turn,
Danny Gronseth finished two shots behind him with a two-day total of 165.
With the regular season now in the rearview mirror, the Thunder can turn their attention to the upcoming CCIW Championship. Wheaton travels to Milwaukee next Friday for the two-day season finale.
