Chicago, Ill. – The Thunder men's track and field team earned a second-place finish on Saturday at the Windy City Invitational at the University of Chicago. Wheaton scored 128 points to finish just behind the host Maroons, who won the event with a team score of 156.
Highlighting the meet for the Thunder were wins by three different athletes in three different events.
David Bradley (PICTURED ABOVE) placed first in the pole vault with a mark of 4.41 meters,
Don Crowder earned a win in the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters, and
Kevin Riley won the 3000 meter run thanks for a time of 8:42.16.
Peter Bradley also scored for Wheaton in the pole vault, as he tied for second place with a mark of 4.26 meters. In the high jump, the Thunder had three additional point-scorers in Abram Erickson and
Stephen Mathew, who tied for third with a top leap of 1.83 meters, and
Colin Swanson, who finished sixth with a mark of 1.73 meters.
Wheaton's 4x400 squad of
Andrew Lauber,
Eli Odell,
Logan Pinkerton and
Max Veth won their event at the indoor meet with a time of 3:23.56. Lauber and Veth also placed in the individual 400 meter run, finishing in second (50.44 seconds) and fourth (51.34 seconds), respectively.
A group of Wheaton runners placed in the 800 meter run, led by Pinkerton, who finished second with a time of 1:59.46, followed closely by
Elliot Kim, who placed third with a time of 1:59.63.
Isaac Struebing finished the event in seventh with a time of 2:03.54, and
Joe Caraway placed eighth in 2:03.91.
Ben Jackson (PICTURED LEFT) earned a second-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.62, while teammate
Isaiah Clausen came in fifth in 14.86. In the 3000,
Jonah Jones placed fifth in 8:49.13 and
Seth Massot earned sixth place in 8:58.96.
In the heptathlon,
Robert Smith finished in third place with 4,455 points, thanks to top-two finishes in the 1000 meter run, pole vault and shot put.
Michael Kitchen placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.60 meters, and Jeremy Earnst placed sixth in the same event with a jump of 11.56 meters. Earnst also placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.06 meters, and Kitchen finished seventh with a mark of 6.05 meters.
The Thunder will be back in action next Friday at North Central's Pat Heenan Invitational. The Valentine's Day meet in Naperville is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
