Wheaton, Illinois – The Wheaton women's track and field team placed second in a field of 10 teams at their home Wheaton Invitational, held Saturday afternoon at McCully Stadium. Wisconsin-Stevens Point won the meet with 161.5 points, followed by the Thunder with 143, and Hope College finished third with 127.5 points.
Marissa Heath,
Maggie Dansdill,
Hannah Roeske and
Favor Ezewuzie all won events for Wheaton. In the 400 hurdles, Heath placed first in 1:03.62, while in the 400-meter run, Dansdill (PICTURED LEFT) tied for first with a time of 58.97, Ezewuzie finished fourth in 1:01.11 and
Natasha Brown came in eighth in 1:01.76. In the 1500, Roeske placed first with a time of 4:44.57, which moves her to ninth on Wheaton's all-time list for that race.
Erika Johnson finished second in the 1500 in 4:47.16, and
Anna Joy Setran placed seventh in 4:59.59.
Hawthorne (PICTURED RIGHT) continues to climb the Wheaton records list as well, now sitting at ninth in the 1500 with a time of 17:59.22, which was good for second in Saturday's race. In the 800, Johnson placed fourth in 2:21.64 and
Nicole Kitchen placed eighth in 2:26.91.
Four Thunder women took the top spots in the 100 hurdles, led by Ezewuzie with a winning time of 15.06 seconds. Coming in second was
Abby Grace McGee in 15.41, followed by Tess Sutton in third with a time of 15.53 and
Nicole Kitchen in fourth with a time of 15.62. Meanwhile, Heath won the 400 hurdles in 1:03.62.
In the field events, Wheaton had several athletes notch point-scoring performances, led by Ezewuzie who won the long jump with a leap of 5.24m. Kitchen also placed in that event, finishing seventh with a mark of 5.12m, while in the high jump,
Katie Lindquist recorded a mark of 1.57m, good for second.
Three discus-throwers scored for the Thunder Saturday, including
Heidi Considine who finished third with a throw of 30.51m,
Grace O'Connell who finished fourth with a toss of 29.32m, and
Kennedi Toney who placed sixth with her throw of 22.43m. Toney also placed fifth in the shot put, recording a toss of 8.73m, followed by
Makenna Sanders in sixth with a mark of 8.47m and O'Connell in eighth with a throw of 7.95m.
Four Wheaton women placed in the javelin, claiming the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth spots in the event:
Eden Parker (32.10m),
Makenna Sanders (31.20m),
Ella Curry (30.55m) and O'Connell (28.10m). And in the triple jump,
Courtney Linscott finished eighth with a leap of 8.85m.
The Thunder will continue their outdoor season next week, when they travel to Lisle, Ill. for the Benedictine University Relays. The two-day meet begins Friday at 12 p.m.
