Naperville, Ill. – For the second year in a row, the Wheaton women's track and field team won the CCIW Indoor Championships, and several women turned in outstanding performances, including two new school records from
Favor Ezewuzie, and a school and CCIW meet record from
Hannah Roeske.
Ezewuzie took first and broke school records in both the 55-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.34 seconds, and the 55-meter race, with a time 7.22 seconds. Two more Thunder runners added points for Wheaton in the 55-meter hurdles, as Tess Sutton finished fourth in 8.61 seconds, and
Abby Grace McGee took fifth with a time of 8.64 seconds.
In the 3000-meter race, four Thunder women placed in the top six, including
Hannah Roeske who won the race in 9:53.57. That mark is a new school record and a new CCIW meet record, eclipsing the previous conference time by more than three seconds.
Aryn Embretson placed fourth in 10:33.67,
Ellie Hawthorne came in fifth in 10:41.78, and
Megan Bailey finished sixth with a time of 10:42.90.
Erika Johnson won the conference title in the 1-mile race, finishing in 5:12.59.
Ellie Hawthorne also placed for the Thunder in that race, coming in sixth with a mark of 5:18.97. In the 800-meter, Johnson placed third with a time of 2:19.77, followed by
Brianna Hawthorne in fourth in 2:21.47.
Wheaton's 4x400 relay team of
Marissa Heath, McGee,
Rose Favino and
Nicole Kitchen finished in second place with their time of 4:04.42. Heath also placed in the 400-meter race, coming in fourth in 59.14.
In the high jump,
Katie Lindquist took home a second place finish with a mark of 1.60 meters. Kitchen also placed in the high jump, finishing sixth with a leap of 1.55 meters.
Overall, the Thunder finished with 159 points for their second-straight indoor conference title. Ezewuzie was named Women's Track Athlete of the Meet, and
Scott Bradley and the Wheaton coaching staff won the CCIW Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year award.
