Naperville, Ill. - The Wheaton indoor track and field teams competed at North Central College's "F. Lee Slick Invitational" on Friday evening. The Thunder women's program finished second in the eight-team field.
Lewis University scored 172 points to finish first in the women's standings. Wheaton placed second with 132 points, North Central was third with 110 points, Aurora scored 82 points in fourth place, Carthage finished fifth with 31 points, Benedictine was sixth with 27 points, Harper College tallied 15 points in seventh place and College of DuPage finished eighth with 13 points.
Junior Katie Lindquist finished first in the women's high jump with a school-record height of 1.67-meters that bested the previous school record of 1.64-meters, set in 2011. Lindquist's effort is tied for sixth in Division III this season. Favor Ezewuzie finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.30-meters and Nicole Kitchen was fifth in the event with an effort of 5.01-meters.
Ezewuzie (PICTURED LEFT) posted the fastest time in the finals of the 60-meter dash and her school-record time of 7.80-seconds in the finals earned her a second-place finish. The Thunder sophomore also set a school record in the 200-meter dash with a second-place effort of 25.93-seconds. Ezewuzie finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.07-seconds in the finals of the event and teammate Nicole Kitchen was fifth in 9.70-seconds.
The Thunder distance medley relay team of Erika Johnson, Marissa Heath, Brianna Hawthorne and Hannah Roeske broke the school record in the event with a time of 11:57.85. Their mark shattered the previous school record of 12:10.12 that had stood since 2009. The quartet's effort ranks fifth in division this season. Aryn Embretson placed first in the 3,000-meter run in 10:32.63 and Hannah Oechsle posted a time of 11:03.78 in third place. Ellie Hawthorne won the one-mile run in a time of 5:19.82 and Elise Alexander finished fourth in 5:30.76. Megan Bailey won the 5,000-meter run in 18:54.63.
The defending CCIW Champion Wheaton women's track and field team competes in the 2018 CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
