Women's track takes first place at the Pat Heenan Invitational; four school records fall

The Wheaton track and field teams competed at North Central's Pat Heenan Track & Field Invitational on Saturday. The Thunder women's track and field team finished first in the eight-team field.

The Thunder scored 131 points to win the event. North Central finished second with 115 points, Olivet Nazarene University scored 98 points in third place, Lewis scored 97 points in fourth, UIC finished fifth with 71 points, St. Francis (Ill.) took sixth place with 38 points, College of DuPage scored 20 points in seventh place and Harper College placed eighth with 13 points.

Sophomore Favor Ezewuzie broke school records in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and long jump. Her first-place time of 9.03-seconds in the 60-meter hurdles broke her own school-record time of 9.18 seconds in the event. Teammate Abby Grace McGee finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.36-seconds and Tess Sutton was fourth in 9.40-seconds. Ezewuzie posted a time of 7.87-seconds to finish first in the finals of the 60-meter dash. Her time of 7.83-seconds in the prelims topped the old school record of 7.87-seconds set by Renee Bettinger in 2012.

32041Marissa Heath and Ezewuzie posted identical times of 26.43-seconds in the 200-meter dash to tie for first in the event. Ezewuzie placed second in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.41-meters that topped Molly Walton's school-record leap of 5.26-meters in 2007. Teammate Kiki Francois placed fifth in the long jump with an effort of 5.09-meters.

Hannah Roeske (PICTURED LEFT) won the one-mile run with a school-record time of 4:58.67 that broke Jaime Orewiler's school-record time of 4:58.81 set in 2012. Roeske's time ranks seventh in Division III this season. Roeske's teammate Erika Johnson was second in the one-mile run with a time of 5:11.03 and Brianna Hawthorne was fifth in 5:19.56. Aryn Embretson placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:15.92.

Katie Lindquist finished second in the high jump with an effort of 1.63-meters and Nicole Kitchen was fourth with a height of 1.58-meters.

The Thunder 4X400-meter relay squad of Heath, McGee, Johnson and Kitchen finished first in 4:02.15. Rose Favino finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.51.
