Kenosha, Wis. – The Wheaton Thunder track and field teams opened up the 2018 indoor season on Friday night at Carthage's "Tadd Metzger Invitational". The Thunder women's program placed second in the nine-team field.
UW-Oshkosh finished first with 143 points, Wheaton was second with 137 points, Carthage scored 116 points in third place, Aurora finished fourth with 98.5 points and Concordia (Wis.) rounded out the top-five with 80.5 points. Carroll score 55 points in sixth place, Concordia (Mich.) finished seventh with 32 points, MSOE scored 15 points in eighth place and North Park was ninth with seven points.
Freshman
Hannah Roeske led a strong Wheaton performance with three of the performances in the women's 3,000-meter run. Roeske was first in 10:11.07,
Megan Bailey placed second in 10:52.53 and
Hannah Oechsle was fourth in 11:06.85.
Aryn Embretson ran the 5,000-meters in 18:24.11 to finish first in the event.
Anna Joy Setran posted a time of 5:37.90 to finish fifth in the one-mile run.
Sophomore
Favor Ezewuzie (PICTURED ABOVE) won the finals of the women's 55-meter dash in 7.33-seconds. In the prelims of the event, she posted a time of 7.32-seconds to tie Wheaton's school record in the event - previously set by Renee Bettinger in 2011. Ezewuzie posted a time of 8.63-seconds to place second in the 55-meter hurdles, setting a new school record in the event as she bested the previous mark of 8.64-seconds.
Abby Grace McGee was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.99-seconds.
Marissa Heath finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.50-seconds.
Wheaton's
Erika Johnson won the 800-meter run in 2:20.87, just ahead of teammate
Brianna Hawthorne in second place with a time of 2:22.58.
Rose Favino posted a time of 1:03.54 to finish second in the 400-meter dash.
The 4X400-meter relay team of Heath, Hawthorne, Johnson and
Nicole Kitchen posted a time of 4:07.84 to finish first in the event.
Katie Lindquist won the women's high jump with a first-place effort of 1.64-meters.
Anna Ifft placed fourth in the women's triple jump with a leap of 10.22-meters.
