GAME STATS 2 Dubuque, Iowa – The Thunder volleyball team spilt its two matches on Saturday at the Loras Invitational. St. Mary's (Minn.) topped the Thunder 3-1 (18-25, 25-13, 28-26, 25-19). Wheaton closed out the tournament with a 3-0 victory against Loras (25-19, 25-22, 25-20).
Shelby Knowles led the Thunder against St. Mary's as she tallied 18 kills, with 15 digs and two service aces.
Sara Reiskytl tallied 14 kills and
Sydney Vischer registered 11 kills with eight digs.
Kelly Thornton contributed 49 assists and
Jessica Bosse had a team-high 21 digs.
Juliana Sudfeld had a team-high five total blocks.
In the Loras match, freshman
Sydney Vischer led the Thunder with 15 kills and 22 digs. Knowles added 13 kills and 22 digs. Senior
Lauren Wilhite had 20 assists in the match and Thornton distributed 12 assists. Bosse had a team-high 19 digs, while Knowles and Thornton each had team-best two service aces.
Head coach
Brittany Smith noted following today's contests, "After showing some impressive moments against another nationally ranked team this morning, it was fantastic to see the team put it all together with a dominant win over Loras. We saw players step up, and overall saw the right effort, focus, communication and leadership as we finished."
The Thunder, now 4-5 on the year, will be off until next weekend when the squad travels to Atlanta to compete in the Emory National Invitational.
Bosse was named to the All-Tournament team for her defensive efforts for the Thunder during the weekend event.
