Wheaton women's golf team ends fall season with final round at CCIW Championship

Vivian Kutek led the Wheaton trio all weekend with the group's best combined score in the competition
Metamora, Ill. -- The Fall 2024 season came to an end this afternoon for the trio of Wheaton women's golfers competing at this year's CCIW Championship, as Molly Holbert, Vivian Kutek, and Abby Smith each played their final round of the three-day competition in central Illinois. The Thunder did not register a team score for the event which was eventually won by Illinois Wesleyan University, and Kutek ended the weekend with the best total mark of the Wheaton trifecta, concluding a solid first semester of collegiate play for the freshman.

Kutek posted a final round score of 87 in this morning's session to complete the three-round championship with an overall mark of 255 for the weekend. This tally saw the rookie from West Chicago tie for 24th place on this year's 50-player tournament leaderboard.

The sophomore Smith (pictured below) carded a daily round score of 107 on Saturday to finish the event with a combined mark of 313, and her fellow second-year golfer Holbert (pictured right) shot her best round of the weekend today with a score of 108 to complete the competition with a three-day tally of 331. Molly Holbert

Having concluded its fall season slate, the Thunder women's squad will now head into the winter break before returning to action in the spring of 2025.

Metamora, Ill. -- Competing in the penultimate round of their Fall 2024 season, Vivian Kutek, Molly Holbert, and Abby Smith returned to the Metamora Fields links this morning to participate in the second day of the 2024 CCIW Women's Golf Championship. After 36 holes completed of this weekend's three-round event, Kutek still leads the way for the Thunder trio on the individual leaderboard.

The rookie remained consistent on Friday, shooting an 18-hole tally of 84 (+13) to match her day one score from yesterday's opening round. Kutek now stands in the middle of the 50-player standings in a tie for 23rd place heading into Saturday's finale.

Smith registered a round score of 105 this morning to bring her two-day tournament mark to 206. Holbert dropped her Thursday total by one stroke with a score of 111 today to enter the clubhouse on a combined tally of 223 for the weekend thus far.

The trifecta of Wheaton golfers will return to the course on Saturday morning for the final round of this year's conference championship and their last round of 2024. Holbert is scheduled to be the first of the three players to tee off at approximately 8:27 tomorrow morning, with Smith and Kutek soon to follow.

Metamora, Ill. -- The 2024 CCIW Women's Golf Championship began this morning in central Illinois, with student-athletes from all nine conference programs taking part in this weekend's three-round event. Three players are representing Wheaton in this year's Championship competition, and the Thunder will not register a team score this weekend as Molly Holbert, Vivian Kutek, and Abby Smith participate on an individual basis. Kutek posted the best score for the Wheaton trio today, and she leads the way for the group heading into Friday's second round. 

The freshman from West Chicago registered a total of 84 (+13) through the first 18 holes of this weekend's Championship and is currently tied for 21st place on the 50-player leaderboard after day one.

Smith carded a first-round mark of 101, and her fellow sophomore Holbert entered the clubhouse on a total of 112 at the end of today's play.

Round two is scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM on Friday morning, and the Wheaton trio will tee off for their second phase of play starting at approximately 8:27 AM tomorrow.
