Naperville, Ill. - The Thunder men's golf team teed off its 2021 season on Monday afternoon at the Naperville Intercollegiate. In a crowded and competitive ten-team field, Wheaton finished in third place but just three shots out of first place. Leading the Thunder efforts was
David Morton who made his collegiate debut by finishing tied atop the leaderboard.
Morton and North Park's Jack Haberkorn navigated the windy conditions to finish tied with a four-over par score of 76 to lead the field.
Cooper Williamson was one of three players tied for third one stroke back at 77. Will Benninck tied for 11th at 81,
Calvin Block tied at 25th with a score of 85 and
Danny Gronseth finished 35th with a score of 89.
Aurora's two teams took first and second place in the ten-team field with one team carding a team score of 316 and the other finishing at 318, one shot ahead of Wheaton's 319. North Park was fourth at 327 and host North Central rounded out the top five with a score of 322.
Wheaton will return to action on Friday morning when the Thunder tee off at the Illinois Wesleyan Invite at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal.
