Wheaton men's golf team places seventh at Hope's Bob Ebels Invitational

Allendale, Mich. --  The Wheaton men's golf team returned to action this weekend, participating at the Bob Ebels Invitational, hosted by Hope College at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University. Wheaton placed seventh in a 13-team field as the Thunder shot 310 on Friday, followed by a 312 on Saturday.

Trine University, currently ranked 39th in Division III men's golf, won the event with a two-day total of 585, the only team to post a score under 600. Central College (Iowa) finished second with 603 strokes, followed by Hope College and Calvin's "B" team in a tie for third with 605 strokes. Calvin's "A" team was fifth with 608 strokes, followed by Davenport's "B" team with 612 strokes. Wheaton shot a team score of 622 in seventh place, followed by Siena Heights one stroke behind with 623 in eighth place. North Central College finished ninth with a 626 and Cornerstone rounded out the top-10 with 629 strokes. Alma College finished 11th with a 632, University of Olivet shot a 642 in 12th place and Davenport's "C" team completed the field with a 658 strokes in 13th place.

Calvin's Ethan Tiller was the medalist at this weekend's event as he shot a 72 on Friday and a 70 on Saturday for a two-day score of 142. Tiller was three strokes ahead of the 145 carded by Garrett James (Trine), Jake Bilby (Trine), Patrick Michael (Hope) and Carter Yurgae (Central) in a four-way tie for second place.

The top performance for Wheaton came from Wyatt Brown who shot a 76 each day for two-day score of 152 in seven-way tie for 12th place. Wheaton's Tannen Reed competed as an individual and carded a 153 in a tie for 19th place. Reed shot a 79 on Friday and followed that up with 74 on Saturday for a 153 total score.

Micah Chiong tallied a two-round score of 154 (76-78) to tie for 22nd. Baylor Brogan tied for 29th with a weekend total 155 (75-80). Freddie Chan tied for 50th with a 161 (83-78) and Jackson Swartz carded a 167 (83-84) in a tie for 69th place. 

The Thunder men's golf team returns to action next weekend at Lake Forest College's Forester Spring Invite. The event will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Prairie Course at Countryside Golf Course in Mundelein, Illinois.
