Thunder student-athletes in winter sports earn academic recognition from the CCIW

Wheaton, Ill. – Several Wheaton student-athletes have been recognized for their efforts in the classroom by the CCIW. The 2018-19 CCIW Academic All-Conference Team for the winter season features 121 Wheaton student-athletes from: men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming, women's swimming, men's indoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field and wrestling. The Academic All-Conference team consists of letterwinners from CCIW member institutions who achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.

Two Thunder student-athletes earned recognition as the school's winter recipients of the Jack Swartz Award. Leif Van Grinsven of the Thunder men's indoor track & field team was Wheaton's male Jack Swartz Award recipient for the winter and junior Hannah Frazier of the women's basketball team was Wheaton's female honoree. Frazier, a First Team All-American for the Thunder women's basketball program is a Mathematics major.Van Grinsven, an All-American in indoor and outdoor track & field for the Thunder in 2018-19, recently graduate from Wheaton with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.

The Jack Swartz Award is given to one male and one female athlete from each conference school at the conclusion of each of the three athletic seasons (fall, winter and spring). The honor is given by the CCIW and each of the eight schools in the league picks their own representatives. The winners from each school must earn a varsity letter in his/her sport and have a grade point average of at least 3.50. The award is named after the late Jack Swartz, a former Wheaton student-athlete, coach and athletic administrator who served as the first Commissioner of the CCIW until his death in 1998.
