GAME STATS Dubuque, Iowa - The Thunder women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Loras College in its first road game of the young 2016 season. The loss snaps a six-match winning streak for the Thunder over the Duhawks and drops Wheaton to 1-2 on the season. Loras is now 2-0. Wheaton will return to action on Friday when the Thunder travel to Virginia to face Virginia Wesleyan in the Captains Classic hosted by Christopher Newport.
Wheaton was able to control the early action of the game, threatening the Duhawks with six first half corner kick opportunities while musterling only five shot attempts. Wheaton would end up outshooting the Duhawks 14-12 thanks to a 9-6 second half edge.
Both Duhawk goals came in the quick span early in the second half. Megan Brant scored Loras' first goal and her first of the season with a shot that bounced over the head of goalie
Kathryn McGregor and into the net in the 51st minute of action. Maura Walsh's rocket from around 25 yards came three and a half minutes later and tucked under the crossbar to give the Duhawks a 2-0 edge at the 54:04 mark. McGregor would allow only the two goals while making six saves.
Maria Siebels posted her second straight shutout for the Duhawks in a seven-save effort.
Wheaton will travel to Newport News for this weekend's Captains Classic. The Thunder will face the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins at 5 PM eastern on Friday night before facing the host Captains of Christoper Newport at 7:30 PM eastern on Saturday night. Wheaton defeated Christopher Newport 2-1 in overtime last season at Joe Bean Stadium.
