Marshall Hollingsworth signs a professional contract with Columbus Crew SC

Wheaton, Ill. – Marshall Hollingsworth, a three-time All-American for the Thunder men's soccer program, recently signed a professional contract with Crew SC of Major League Soccer (MLS). Hollingsworth was selected by Crew SC in the second round of the 2016 Major League Soccer (MLS) Superdraft in January. He was chosen as the 41st pick of the draft by Columbus; and his selection marks the highest pick of a NCAA Division III player since 2004 when the Chicago Fire drafted Khari Stephenson of Williams College with the 27th overall pick.

A four-year starter at midfielder for the Thunder men's soccer program, Hollingsworth is a three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III All-American. He picked up Second Team All-American honors in 2015 and was a First Team honoree in 2013 and 2014. A four-time NSCAA All-Central Region honoree, Hollingsworth is the first Wheaton men's soccer player to be taken in the MLS Superdraft and just the 10th player from a NCAA Division III school to be selected in the draft since it began in 1996.

Hollingsworth was named the Midfielder of the Year by D3soccer.com in 2014 when he helped guide the Thunder to a 22-4-0 record and a National Runner-Up effort in the NCAA Division III Championship. He was honored as the 2015 Division III Player of the Year by Hero Sports, helping Wheaton to its fourth-consecutive CCIW Championship and the NCAA Division III Sectional Finals. Wheaton posted a 72-16-8 record in his four seasons with the Thunder, compiling a 79.2% winning percentage.

Hollingsworth earned First Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) recognition in each season at Wheaton and was named the CCIW Player of the Year in 2015 and 2014 and picked up the CCIW Newcomer of the Year Award in 2012.

He departed the Wheaton program with 39 career goals, including 15-game winners. He tallied 20 assists in his four seasons with the Thunder and registered 98 career points.
