Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Thunder men's and women's swim teams put up an impressive showing in Saturday's dual meet at Calvin College. Both teams fell by a similar score of 161-137, but the Thunder continued to produce fast times with a number of event wins.
The Thunder women's 200-yard medley realy team of
Kirsty Nitz,
Kayla Roberson,
Sarah Coley and
Sarah Hunt led a 1-2 Wheaton finish with a time of 1:49.01 to earn a three-second win over the quartet of
Meredith Clarkson,
Katie Deysher,
Erin Bagley and
Sarah Oldach. The victory was one of three total wins for Nitz who produced a blistering time of 56.55 in the 100-yard backstroke to win by nearly six seconds. She also turned in a time of 2:04.65 in the 200-yard backstroke to earn a victory of over 11 seconds.
Katie Deysher also earned three toal wins with a time of 2:27.66 for a nine second win in the 200-yard breaststroke and a 2:12.17 in the 200-yard individual medley to win by seven seconds.
Erin Bagley finished with a time of 1:08.70 in the 100-yard breaststroke to take first place by four seconds and finished second in a 1-2-3 finish for Wheaton in the 100-yard butterfly.
Sarah Coley led the trio with a time of 1:00.25.
Kayla Roberson earned a convincing victory in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:15.81.
Will McCauley helped Wheaton sweep the 500-yard freestyle by winning the men's competition in 4:44.24. McCauley was also the backend of a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard butterfly that saw Chris Dingfield earn a victory with a time of 1:56.34. Dingfield was also part of a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard butterfly where Jacob Clement won with a time of 51.89 seconds. Clement was second to Jack O'Connor in the 50-yard freestyle as O'Connor finished with a half second split on Clement in a time of 21.16 seconds. O'Connor also won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.57 seconds.
Chris Szymczak earned a win the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events finishing in 52.27 seconds and 1:55.49 respectively. Elliot Penson won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.79.
Wheaton will head to Chicago next weekend when the Thunder take part in the University of Chicago Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
