Baseball eliminated from postseason contention with 11-7 loss at North Park

Johnny Peltz drove in the first run with a groundout that plated Kyle Mellinger. Matt Krause followed suit with a single to left that scored Jake Portugal (PICTURED RIGHT) to cut the lead to 4-2.

North Park added three runs on the bottom of the seventh and anotehr four runs in the bottom of the eighth to build up an 11-2 lead but Wheaton would no go away quietly.

A bases loaded hit by pitch to Trey Martin cut the lead to 11-3 and following a pitching change, Mellinger drilled a long grand slam to left field that made the score 11-7. A two-out error and another hit by pitch brought the tying run to the on deck circle, but that would be all as Matt Peterson came on to nail down his fourth save of the season for the Vikings.


Note Worthy: Wheaton will honor its seven seniors with a ceremony prior to the start of the first game of Saturday's doubleheader...Trey Martin's fourth inning single was the 209th hit of his career, moving him past Ryan Miller into third place on the career hits list...Martin's ninth innng RBI was his 157th of his career, moving past Brian Kolb into second place on the career RBI list.
