Danville, Ky.- The Wheaton Thunder baseball team opened its season with an 8-0 shutout win at Centre College on Friday night. Eight batters had a hit for the Thunder an an 11-hit outburst. On the hill,
Evan Rahn took the win for Wheaton striking out seven Colonels and allowing just two hits in five innings of work.
Josh Arevalo (PICTURED BELOW) earned the save for the Thunder with a four hitless innings of relief work. Wheaton will continue its three-game series with Centre tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 PM (EST).
Wheaton struck first early on with a three-run second inning followed by a two-run third inning.
John Jensen-Johnson put Wheaton on the board first with an RBI single that scored
Trey Martin from second.
Michael Kaufman followed with an RBI single that plated
Kyle Mellinger before Jensen-Johnson was brought home on a sarifice fly by
Matt Schappell. In the third inning,
Justin Swider scored on a passed ball and Jensen-Johnson provided an RBI single.
Taylor Howe's seventh inning pinch-hit single made the Wheaotn lead 6-0. In the top of the ninth inning, a pair of Centre errors led to an unearned run scored by
Josh Kimmel. Jensen-Johnson capped his three-hit, three-RBI day with a sacrifice fly to right field scoring
