Top-ranked Thunder women's soccer team earns a 3-0 shutout of Carroll (Wis.)

The top-ranked Wheaton women's soccer team returned to action on Saturday night to earn a 3-0 win at Carroll University (Wis.). Tonight's victory was the fourth shutout of the season for the Thunder.

The Thunder and the Pioneers were scoreless at halftime of tonight's contest in Waukesha. The Thunder came out and scored three second-half goals, sparked by Leah DeMoss's fourth goal of the year in the 49th minute. DeMoss converted a Bailey Wysocki assist to give Wheaton the lead. Alexa Sharkey (PICTURED LEFT) increased Wheaton's lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute when she scored off of a DeMoss assist. Kristin Rauh accounted for the 3-0 final score when she scored in the 64th minute thanks to a Sydney Sharkey assist.

Wheaton controlled the pace throughout, with a 21-4 advantage in shots, including a 15-1 edge in the second half. Wheaton was awarded four corner kicks and the Pioneers had one. Thunder goalkeeper Kelsey Graham made three saves in 75 minutes of work in the net. Freshman Mary Daghfal played the final 15 minutes in the Thunder net. Carroll netminder Erica Patterson made eight saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes in the Pioneers' net.

Wheaton remains undefeated with tonight's win and improves to 9-0 on the year, while Carroll is now 5-5. The Thunder will begin conference play on Wednesday when Carthage College visits Joe Bean stadium at 4:30 PM in a CCIW contest.
