Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory against University of St. Thomas (2-2) on Saturday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium. Wheaton, ranked number-one in this week's NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll, is now 5-0 on the year. Wheaton will travel to Alma College on Sept. 17 for a meeting with the Scots at 4 PM (EDT).
Thunder freshman
Sarah Frey scored her first collegiate goal in the 35th minute of today's match to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.
Sydney Sharkey assisted on a cross that was well-timed to setup the Frey goal. Wheaton out-shot the Tommies 6-5 in the first half and the Thunder led 1-0 at halftime.
The Thunder out-shot the Tommies 7-2 in the second half. In the 87th minute a ball went off two St. Thomas players and into the net to give Wheaton its second goal of the match and a 2-0 lead that would become the final outcome.
Wheaton out-shot St. Thomas 13-7 for the match and the Thunder owned a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper played 55 minutes in the Thunder net with two saves and no goals allowed.
Alexa Sharkey also saw some time as keeper with one save and no goals allowed. St. Thomas netminder Jenny Grahek made one save and allowed two goals in the match.
