Wheaton, Ill.- The Wheaton men's and women's swim teams split a dual meet on Saturday at Calvin College. The women were victorious by a score of 166-130 while the men fell 177-119.
The Wheaton women were successful in the relay events, winning the 200-yard medley relay (1:51.03) with a team of
Emma Rogers,
Sarah Coley,
Kirsty Nitz and
Kelly Ormond. Wheaton also won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:41.70) with its team of Ormond, Katie Ciakowski, Coley and
Ali Offerdahl.
Carlie Herich turned in an impressive performance to win the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:48.82. Herich also won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.82) barely beating
Katie Cialkowski (1:58.92) to the wall.Â
Kirsty Nitz won the 100-yard backstroke (58.47), 100-yard freestyle (52.67) and the 100-yard butterfly (57.64).Â
Erin Bagley continued her strong debut season with victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.73) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.30).Â
Katie Deysher won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:13.86.
The men's performance was highlighted by a record-breaking performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Will McCauley's time of 9:47.53 broke the previous varsity record which was set in 1990 by two seconds.
Wills Francis won the 100-yard backstroke in a close finish with a time of 53.67. In the 50-yard freestyle Jac Raymond was victorious in 22.10 seconds.
Parker Roth won the diving events at one meter and three meters.
Wheaton's next event will be the University of Chicago Invite on Nov. 22-23.
