Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win at home against North Central College (2-7-1/1-2-0) on Friday night to remain undefeated on the season. Wheaton,
ranked number-one in Division III for the third-straight week by the NSCAA, is now 11-0-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in conference play. The Thunder will return to action on Wednesday at University of Chicago.
The Thunder kept pressure on the Cardinals for the majority of the first half. Wheaton's ninth shot attempt of the half was an arcing ball that was blasted by
Sydney Sharkey at the edge of the 18-yard box and it found the upper right corner of the net. Sharkey's goal came 34:51 into the match and was assisted by junior
Sarah Guidera. Wheaton held a 1-0 lead at halftime and out-shot the Cardinals 11-6 in the first half.
The score remained a 1-0 Wheaton lead for much of the second half. Wheaton's
Bailey Wysocki (PICTURED LEFT) booted in her eighth goal of the year with about 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Wysocki's goal was the result of a
Val Lelle crossing pass that originated at the opposite edge of the box and found Wysocki in front of the net with the outstanding goal opportunity. Wheaton out-shot North Central 17-3 in the second half.
Wheaton owned a 28-9 edge in the match and the hosts held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper
Mary Daghfal made her first collegiate start in the net for Wheaton. Daghfal posted the shutout with no goals allowed and three saves. North Central netminder Nicki Seiton made nine saves and allowed two goals in 90 minutes of work.
